This project involved a redesign of the video platform used by eBay which is provided by a third party company. The existing design was about 10 years old. The interface looked clunky and out of date. I was the lead designer, along with 2 other designers.
The previous version of the platform had a very minimalist and unfriendly design. The video thumbnails were tiny, and never seemed to change. Content wasn't well sectioned. There was an enthusiastic over use of radio buttons, and a lack of visual impact throughout. It was a product of its time.
The project involved a redesign along with a number of UX changes to streamline the user experience. There were a huge number of screens and states to design for. The homepage, the search results, browse page, uploading and editing videos, personal and public account pages, updating filters and sorting, etc.
The homepage utilized pills which acted as suggestions of popular searches to help give visibility to the platform's content, and facilitate engagement. Along with adding videos from channels that users had subscribed to, and adding rows which acted as showcases for various campaigns that were occurring in the company.
The end product was a far more functional and modern application which focussed on providing the user with engaging content and a more absorbing experience throughout.
